Vintage Bus Trip to Leigh on Sea
Regulars at the community-owned Railway Arms pub gathered on Saturday to commemorate exactly 100 years since a group departed from the Railway on a day trip excursion.Shortly after taking ownership of the pub, an old black and white photograph was found which was taken in Station Road with an old charabanc fronted by a large number dressed in their Sunday best for a day trip. On closer inspection a date at the bottom of the picture showed that it had been taken on 30th August 1925.

“Exactly 100 years to the day later, it was rude not to mark the occasion with a modern day picture from the same spot – and of course, a day trip to the seaside” said trip organiser Steve Langford. “We thought we should rent an old vintage bus and stumbled across an old 1962 Bedford SB Duple Super Vega run by Lodge’s Coaches of High Easter which was perfect”
The day trippers headed to Leigh on Sea for a quick stop off at the Leigh on Sea Brewery, before heading into the old town to enjoy the seafood restaurants, cocklesheds and pubs by the sea
